Flooring Service Maintenance Tips

What NOT to Use on Your Wood Floors

It’s easy to see why having hardwood floors is a valuable part of a home. This is because they are beautiful, durable, and will enhance whatever room they are in. They are relatively simple to clean, although it is important that you do not neglect the maintenance cleaning. Our professional flooring service tips will help you maintain your wood flooring.

  • Sweep daily – An important thing that you can do for your floors is to sweep them on a regular basis. This ensures that they keep looking their best, however, more importantly, it will remove all the soil and debris that will otherwise be ground into the boards.
  • Mop weekly – Apart from the daily sweeping, make sure that you give your wood floors a mop with a good quality cleaner that has been specifically formulated for wood flooring once a week. Use a soft cloth mop, and gently apply it so the applicator head does not make contact with the wood.
  • Finding the right floor cleaner – Rather than use soap, you want to use a cleaner that has a neutral pH. Never use soap, as it will leave a residue that attracts dust and dirt once it has dried, also, avoid using any abrasive cleaning products, as they too will scratch and dull your floor.
  • Don’t get the floor too wet – Moisture is not a friend of wood flooring. When mopping, you need to cover the floor evenly, however, try not to overly saturate it. Use a damp mop instead of one that is soaking wet.
  • Cleaning by hand – Make sure you clean all the corners, stairs, and any hard-to-reach places of your wooden floor the old-fashioned way, which is on your hands and knees. Use your same cleaning product, just but apply it by hand using a soft cloth.
